When Will Boruto Timeskip Happen? -TWO BLUE VORTEX- Explained!

Boruto has been around for a while now, and while the sequel to Kishimoto’s Naruto never became as popular as the original, with Kishimoto back at the helm, the series has fans hyped about the future once again. Now, the series – both the manga and the anime – had a brief hiatus in 2023, but it has been announced that the manga is coming back in August 2023 with a time skip that will lead us into BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX-, the second part. In this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about it.

BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- is the official title of the second part of the Boruto series, which is set to debut on August 21, 2023, after a roughly four-month hiatus. The anime is also going to continue, but the exact date is still unknown. The time skip is, as per the current data available, going to be four years long, which is quite a big time skip, but this has yet to be confirmed, although it has been confirmed that we are going to see older versions of the main characters in the series, so the time skip is certainly going to be a long(er)-ish one; an official confirmation is going to arrive in the upcoming weeks.

We still don’t know too much ourselves, so the article won’t be spoiler-heavy, but new data will be revealed, so be careful how you approach it.

BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- is coming out in August, while the anime’s premiere is still TBD

As we have said, the Boruto anime series never reached the same level of popularity as Naruto or Naruto: Shippuden. Still, it managed to bring back some old fans and attract a series of new ones, who also caught up with what happened in Naruto. Now, after 293 episodes and six years on the air, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime was over, and in April 2023, the manga likewise ended. Sure enough, everyone quickly confirmed that both the anime and the manga were just on a hiatus, which implied that the series would be coming back, and from what we could gather at the time, it would happen quite soon.

And while the anime will definitely start a bit later (not before the special anniversary event in September is over), the manga will, as we have recently found out, return on August 20 or 21, depending on where you are in the world, with Chapter 81 that will continue the story post-time skip. This was a similar pattern to the original Naruto anime, although it seems that the Boruto time skip will follow a wholly different path here that won’t be directly comparable to the relationship between Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden.

The cover of Shueisha’s V Jump magazine for October was also leaked, featuring Boruto’s new post-time skip design, as well as that of an older Sarada Uchiha. As we’ve said, the manga is continuing its serialization on August 21, 2023, and will be published under the title BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX-. As for the anime, we assume that it is going to return either later this year or early next year, but we’ll be sure to inform you as soon as some new information appears.

BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- is probably a reference to the word “Uzumaki” or the Rasengan

Like Naruto, whose sequel was titled Shippuden, Boruto‘s Part II/sequel also got a new title, which is: BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX-. Now, some fans suspected that the title would be a play on Shippuden, which we have already discussed here on Fiction Horizon, but it seems that the creative team behind Boruto has opted for a different approach here. Now, as of the time of writing, the meaning of -TWO BLUE VORTEX- is unknown, but we can venture some guesses as to what it could mean.

First, it could reference the name Uzumaki, which, in Japanese, means vortex or spiral. If this proves to be true, it would actually highlight the importance of the bond between Naruto and Boruto or, perhaps, indicate that Himawari is going to play a larger role in the second part. The color is probably a reference to the blue motif associated with Boruto.

Secondly, the title could be a reference to the Rasengan, the signature technique of the Uzumaki family, which is basically a swirling orb. This is a more liberal interpretation of the word “vortex,” but it’s really not that far off, to be frank. The color blue is the standard color of the Rasengan in the anime, and it also fits with Boruto’s general motif. But, whether the title means that Boruto will be able to use two of them at the same time or that – again – father and son, or brother and sister, are going to use them together is unknown.

These are just our theories, so it could later turn out that we were completely off on this one, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

It seems that the time skip is going to be four years long

Now, narrative details related to the plot of the time skip are still scarce, and at this moment, we have absolutely no clue what to expect, save for the obvious things that we know, i.e., that Boruto is going to train with Sasuke, that the characters are getting older, that Boruto will have to save his father and fix everyone’s memories, and that he still has to clash with Kawaki in the scene from the beginning of the series. But, as we have said, these are all things we knew from the start.

So far, no new plot-related information has been provided, save for the fact that the characters are going to be noticeably older and that their visual appearances are going to change, as we’ve seen in the cases of Boruto (whose redesign was already foreshadowed) and Sarada (whose appearance honors both her mother’s and her father’s family, resembling that of Itachi, her uncle).

As far as the duration of the time skip is concerned, we have information that the Boruto time skip is going to last a total of four years, which is a lot (even for anime standards, not counting the long epilogue time skips), but this has yet to be officially confirmed. Such a long time skip would explain the visual changes and would also mean that we can expect a lot of changes in the characters’ lives, as well as their skills and abilities. As far as the rest is concerned, we still don’t know anything, but we are going to inform you as more information becomes available.

The story of Boruto… in a nutshell

Boruto tells the tale of Naruto and Hinata’s son as he sets off on his own ninja journey, one that is distinct from that of his father. In that aspect, the series enables Boruto to develop and choose a different road from what his father had to go through because he lives in a time that, despite appearing to be tranquil, is actually perilous due to a developing menace that is rumored to be far more evil than Kaguya.

As we also follow the adventures of adult Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, the story discusses how Boruto and his pals collaborate in an effort to hopefully neutralize this menace. So it’s a mixed bag of Boruto and Naruto.

In addition to typical human ninjas, Boruto now battles members of the godlike Otsutsuki clan, which is where Kaguya originated. They vow to be so strong that even the two top ninjas on the planet, Naruto and Sasuke, will have trouble battling them. In the end, a perilous prophecy about Boruto determines whether he will be a hero or the person who will bring about the end of the world.
