‘Miraculous Ladybug’: Who Is Zoé in Love With? Love Interest Explained

Miraculous Ladybug fans had something to look forward to this year – the release of the fifth season and the Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir movie. We are close to the end of season five, and boy, do we have some great revelations and content coming our way. Besides Marinette and Adrien having gentle moments with each other, it seems that other characters were also touched by love in this season. Most prominently, Zoé Lee, Chloé Bourgeois’s younger half-sister, realizes feelings for one notable character in the show. This article will discuss who Zoé is in love with and explain the happenings that led to that revelation.

Zoé Lee is in love with Marinette, which is revealed in the 17th episode of season five, titled ‘Adoration.’ The younger half-sister of Chloé Bourgeois joins Marinette to organize the end-of-the-year dance, where the secret superheroine learns that her friend is in love with someone from the ninth-grade class in school. Even though it is thought that Zoé has a crush on Adrien, it is revealed that the girl actually likes Marinette, marking her as one of the LGBTQ+ characters in the Miraculous Ladybug show.

This “coming out” story is adorable, and even though Marinette thought that Zoé liked her crush, Adrien, the younger Bourgeois, really “swerved” the fans to another side and became another LGBTQ+ representative on the show. If you’re interested, stay with us until the end.

Who is Zoé Lee?

Miraculous Ladybug fans had a really great time this year, especially with the release of the fifth season worldwide and the movie that recently “dropped” on Netflix. The movie was implemented in the Miraculous Ladybug TV series really well, and even some supporting characters shone brightly in the latest episodes. One of them is Zoé Lee, the younger half-sister of Chloé Bourgeois, whom we meet in season four, episode 7th, titled ‘Soul Crusher.’

She is quite an interesting character because she is the polar opposite of her sister, Chloé, in many ways. While Chloé is the dominant, bossy, and envious person, Zoé is sweet, kind, and sometimes insecure. That doesn’t mean she’s incapable of taking care of herself, but a strange family and unsupportive environment leads to Zoé doubting herself, especially regarding her talents.

Zoé wants to become an actress, and she obviously has the talent to do so. However, with Chloé skewed way of thinking about people and her perception of the world, the younger sister cannot get out of her shell. Fortunately, with her first appearance in the show, Zoé stumbles upon Marinette and immediately likes her.

Being open as she is, Marinette impresses Zoé and immediately hits it off with the other girl. Zoé’s journey is interesting since she comes from New York to Paris, shows off her creative side, and wins over others with her kindness.

Most importantly, we see how she is overprotective of Marinette and Adrien’s love for each other and is ready to jump in front of them to stop other people from interfering with their relationship.

This is why Zoé isn’t happy with how her sister is acting – consistently throughout the Miraculous Ladybug show, Chloé tries to separate Marinette and Adrien to be with the boy.

This means that Chloé is making everyone around her miserable, and Zoé just doesn’t like that behavior. Despite all of her sister’s faults, Zoé tries to avoid conflict with her sister since she knows Chloé will make sure to convince their parents for Zoé to return to New York.

Zoé is also akumatized by Shadow Moth in her first episode because she hid her true self to please Chloé – Zoé becomes Sole Crusher and makes citizens of Paris miserable. However, with the intervention of Ladybug and Cat Noir, Zoé to herself and since then becomes a great friend to Marinette and Adrien.

Interestingly enough, Zoé receives a Bee Miraculous from Ladybug to fight her akumatized sister Chloé and becomes Vasperia. She later takes over the Cat Miraculous from Adrien and becomes Kitty Noire, but when Monarch reveals her real identity, she returns the Cat Miraculous to Adrien.

Who is Zoé in love with?

Since her debut in the ‘Miraculous Ladybug’ show, we barely knew of Zoé’s love life. Most characters have shown their crushes and feelings for other people in the show, and Zoé was always the mysterious one.

However, the show’s fifth season showcased that love is in the air and that most of our characters were affected in the Miraculous Ladybug. Adrien and Marinette confessed their love for each other, while Gabriel Agreste “upped” the stakes even more with his villainous activities as the Monarch. Chloé was finally hit with the consequences of her doings, and Zoé finally revealed her crush, which was a surprise.

Throughout episode 17th of the fifth season, titled “Adoration,” we see Zoé constantly looking at the photo of the person she loves. She even hears the wise words of her father, the mayor of Paris, André Bourgeois, who tells her to never give up on her dreams and tells her the story of how he met her mother, Audrey. We also learn that André actually took the name from Audrey when they got married.

The end of the school year is near, and Zoé and Marinette have been selected as representatives to organize the special event. Of course, we see two girls working together and talking to each other – Zoé sees Marinette’s room with one wall full of Adrien’s photos.

Marinette confesses that she is afraid to tell Adrien about her feelings, and Zoé agrees, saying she can relate to that feeling since she is dealing with the same situation herself. At that point, we still don’t know about Zoé’s crush, but we get the hint when we see her talking with Adrien – Marinette even panics when she sees Zoé talking with Adrien.

However, after a series of events that sees Chloé again trying to ruin Marinette’s life, Zoé stands up to the girl, leading us to a very important moment in the episode. Zoé confesses to Marinette that she loves her but must confess her feelings for Adrien as soon as possible. Zoé encourages Marinette to seek out her dreams, and despite the initial shock, Marinette hugs Zoé and thanks her for being a good friend.

Marinette tells Adrien she loves him by the end of the episode. When it comes to romance in cartoons and teenage shows, there are often too complicated, over the top, and just plain boring. However, Miraculous Ladybug really does well in healthily showcasing their character dynamics. In other situations, or even show, we might expect Marinette to freak out on Zoé or Zoé trying to win over Marinette, creating a dreaded love triangle.

But that never happens because, first and foremost, Zoé is Marinette’s friend, and she respects and loves her enough to encourage her to be with the one she loves – in this case, that’s Adrien. Of course, Zoé isn’t the first representative of the LGBTQ+ community on the ‘Miraculous Ladybug‘ show since we saw multiple (mostly recurring or episodic) characters being in same-sex relationships before.
