While you’re waiting for the new episodes of Silo to drop, you might want to check out shows with premises similar to this one, set in both dystopian and post-apocalyptic worlds. Our list has everything, from survivors trapped in submarines and androids acting as gods to good old radiation danger. And what’s best, the shows are ranked by their IMDb scores. So if you’re interested in shows similar to Silo, check out our top 10 list.

1. Jericho (2006–2008)

Jericho 2006–2008

IMDb Score: 7.9

What it’s about:  Jericho is set in the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, following a nuclear attack on major cities in the United States. The story revolves around the efforts of the town’s residents to survive and rebuild their community in the aftermath of the disaster, and the nuke was only the start of their troubles. Following devastating nuclear attacks, all communications and electronics are annihilated after an EMP from an unknown source deepening the town’s hardships.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  The common themes in both Silo and Jericho are difficulties communicating with the outside world, limited resources, and the utmost importance of organizing a functional society to ensure everyone’s safety. Likewise, there’s also an important need to investigate the cause of everything with a bit of mystery thrown in.

2. From (2022-)

From Season 1 Recap Ending Explained Get Ready for Season 2

IMDb Score: 7.7

What it’s about:  From follows a group of strangers that all find themselves in a desolate town unable to leave, literally, as the only road outside of the town leads into an endless loop. What’s worse, the town’s residents are hunted by bloodthirsty and terrible monsters after sundown, unlike anything they’ve ever seen. A small group of residents spends their days trying to evade certain death and solve the biggest mysteries of all; why are we here, and how do we leave?

Why it’s similar to Silo: From is a bit more on the horror side when compared to Silo since it can be pretty graphic sometimes. Still, survivors in From and Silo are unsure of what lies outside their small communities’ premises. They are also unable to communicate with the outside world, and there are plenty of mysteries to solve. Even though From doesn’t feature a post-apocalyptic society, it might as well be an apocalypse for the town’s residents since they are cut off from the rest of the world with limited resources and means of survival.

3. Station Eleven (2021-2022)

Station Eleven 2021 2022

IMDb Score: 7.6

What it’s about: Station Eleven follows a group of characters before and after a global pandemic called the Georgian Flu wipes out a significant number of the world’s population. Our protagonists are called the Traveling Symphony, and they perform Shakespearean plays and classical music in the world left behind by the pandemic in order to bring some hope to it. They get into a conflict with a cult led by an insane and violent man who tries to undo what they’ve managed to recreate.

Why it’s similar to Silo: First, both Station Eleven and Silo are based on novels, and they have the same post-apocalypse theme. Although t

he Silo so far seems to be grittier and tenser, as Station Eleven focuses more on the hopeful future and rebuilding after the catastrophe has already struck.

4. The 100 (2014-2020)

The 100 2014 2020

IMDb Score: 7.6

What it’s about: Ninety-seven years after a devastating nuclear apocalypse, humanity survives on a space station called Ark. With the Ark’s life-support failing, one hundred juvenile detainees are sent to Earth to determine if it’s habitable and conserve resources. They encounter various groups: the Grounders, warring clans; the cannibalistic Reapers; and the secluded Mountain Men in Mount Weather. Led by Clarke and Bellamy, the juveniles strive to survive, face hostile grounders, and establish contact with the Ark amidst challenging surface conditions.

Why it’s similar to Silo: In both shows, humanity is forced to live in enclosed spaces due to the devastating and toxic conditions outside, and both shows heavily feature themes of survival and the importance of working together to reach the higher goal and ultimately create a viable society.

Raised By Wolves 2020 2022

Why it’s similar to Silo:  Raised by Wolves is set in a dystopian society that is already functional to some extent, it’s just a matter of keeping a fine balance between the religious faction and the atheists. Raised by Wolves is more on the philosophical side than Silo, but it heavily focuses on “what happens after” we’ve made it through disaster, and how do we move on?

6. Into the Night (2020-2021)

Into the Night 2020 2021

IMDb Score: 7.1

What it’s about: Into the Night follows a group of passengers who find themselves on a commercial overnight flight from Brussels. However, a doomsday-level event occurred while they were on the flight, and the civilization collapsed functionally within minutes. The sun’s rays have become too toxic to sustain human life, and even minimal exposure leads to certain death. In order to survive, the passengers and crew must keep the plane flying westward, staying ahead of the sunrise.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  The themes are obvious, there is a group of people cramped in small quarters, limited resources, and tensions are high. Both shows are heavy on suspense and survival themes.

7. Snowpiercer (2020-2023)

Snowpiercer 2020 2023

IMDb Score: 6.9

What it’s about: Snowpiercer takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth has become frozen and uninhabitable. A group of survivors made a moving train their home since it was the only way they could survive suddenly harsh Earth conditions. The train is divided into distinct classes, with the wealthy and privileged residing in luxurious cars at the front, while the poor are placed into generally less desirable parts of the train. This is likewise the main source of conflict throughout the series.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  Snowpiercer and Silo share a few central themes. Both are set in post-apocalypse, yes, and people are forced to live in enclosed spaces, but the most important similarity is that in both shows, the commoners are obviously ruled by an “above-class” that is trying their best to keep the status quo going and keep people from taking destiny into their own hands.

8. Under the Dome (2013-2015)

Under the Dome 2013 2015

IMDb Score: 6.5

What it’s about:  Under the Dome is a show based on Stephen King’s book. It takes place in the small town of Chester’s Mill. This seemingly perfect and harmonious town is suddenly enclosed within an unbreakable transparent dome, cutting them off from the outside world. Now the residents inside the Dome have to figure out how to pool their resources, how to solve the mystery of the Dome, and how to manage the new power dynamics within the group.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  Both shows are based on books, are both shows focus on the survivors who are cut off from the rest of the world but somewhat safe until they aren’t. If it wasn’t for the final season and the ending in general, Under the Dome easily has the most fascinating mystery out of all shows on this list, but beware, you might lose interest mid-watching and just skip to reading spoilers online.

9. The Rain (2018-2020)

The Rain 2018 2020

IMDb Score: 6.3

What it’s about:  The Rain, as the title insinuates, takes place in a world that was nearly wiped out by a virus carried by raindrops. Simone and Rasmus emerge from a bunker six years after the initial outbreak and join a group of fellow survivors as they search for safety and answers about the virus and its origins.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  Both Rain and Silo feature a society that fell seemingly overnight without the protagonists being sure what exactly happened. It also has a scarcity of resources and group infighting that, most of the time, has devastating consequences.

10. Yakamoz S-245 (2022-)

Yakamoz S 245 2022

IMDb Score: 6.1

What it’s about: Yakamoz S-245 is actually set in the same world as Into the Night and is considered to be a spinoff of the aforementioned series. The series follows a group of survivors, but instead of being bound to the plane, the survivors are virtually trapped inside the submarine, as the fact that they can dive into the water deep enough to escape the sun is the only thing keeping them alive. Two groups are forced to co-exist inside the submarine, scientists and paranoid military officers, which leads to many conflicts but, ultimately, an uneasy alliance.

Why it’s similar to Silo:  I mean, just like with most series on this list, Yakamoz S-245 creates its tense atmosphere and the sense of unease by forcing people to co-exist in extremely cramped spaces and the danger of the “outside world” looming in the background. Yakamoz is a decent show if you can get past the plot holes. An added bonus is if you decide to watch it after Into the Night
