‘Jujutsu Kaisen‘ is a shōnen manga by Gege Akutami, published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in March 2018. An animated series adaptation produced by studio MAPPA aired between October 2020 and March 2021. The prequel manga ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0‘ also received an adaptation in the form of an anime film that aired in December 2021.

How Many Seasons and Episodes Does Jujutsu Kaisen Have?
Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen has 1 season, 24 episodes, and one prequel movie. The second season of the anime is currently ongoing. The first episode of Season 2 was released on July 6, 2023.

Do you need to watch ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ in a specific order?
Jujutsu Kaisen should be watched in chronological watch order. This is due to the prequel movie ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ which takes place before the events of the first season. If you want to follow the plot, you should watch the movie before you see the anime series. The issue is that the movie does require some knowledge of the franchise’s lore, which makes it a bit difficult to follow if you don’t know anything about Jujutsu Kaisen.
So, if you’re acquainted with the series, you should watch the movie first, but if you’re new to the franchise, we advise going through the anime series first.

1. ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 starts off with High school student Yuuta Okkosu who wants to be executed because he suffers from the actions of Rika Orimoto, the spiteful spirit that possesses her. Meanwhile, Satoru Gojo, a teacher who teaches exorcising “curses,” transfers Yuuta to Tokyo’s Higher Technical School of Jujutsu. The prelude to the Jujutsu Kaisen series begins in this movie, based on the prequel manga of the same name.
2. ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ (Season 1)
Original Release: October 3, 2020 – March 27, 2021

In ‘Jujutsu Kaisen,’ all living beings emit evil energy derived from negative emotions. Normal people can’t control this energy and constantly lose it, leading to the birth of Curses. Sorcerers, however, can manipulate this energy and utilize it for their own purposes, reducing its release. Advanced sorcerers can refine this energy and perform cursed techniques, including domain expansion, creating pocket dimensions with amplified physical abilities and enhanced sorcery powers.
The story follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who possesses inferior physical abilities but has a talent for sports. He joins the Occult Research Club to have time to visit his dying grandfather in the hospital. After his grandfather’s passing, Yuji encounters Megumi Fushiguro, who informs him of a cursed talisman at her school. To protect his friends, Yuji swallows the talisman, which turns out to be a finger belonging to Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful curse. Sukuna becomes the main villain, alongside other demons, as Yuji becomes the host of his powers.
3. ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ (Season 2)
Original Release: July 6, 2023 –
Number of Episodes: TBA
Since the new season just started its release we don’t have much info concerning the overall plot. We do know however that the series will adapt ‘Hidden Inventory/Premature Death’ and ‘Shibuya Incident’ story arcs from the original manga.

The first season of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and HBO Max in subbed format and on Funimation in dubbed format; you can also stream it on the VRV platform. ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ can be watched on Crunchyroll. Regarding Season 2 of the anime, you can watch on regularly on Crunchyroll as well.
Will There Be More ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Anime?
Considering that Season 2 is currently ongoing, we have little information regarding Season 3. I suppose that it will depend on the viewership of the current season. We don’t have any concrete info as of yet but we will update this post as soon as something is known.
