30 Best Water- And Ground-Type Pokémon: Including Moves, Abilities & Weaknesses

30 Best Water And Ground Type Pokemon Including Moves Abilities Weaknesses
Share:

In this article, we are going to bring you a list of the best Water- and Ground-type Pokémon. We have chosen This very specific combination since Ground-type Pokémon are generally weak to Water-type moves. On the other hand, Water-type Pokémon are weak to Electric-type moves, but the Ground-type gives them immunity over these attacks, as we can see in dual-type combinations. This is why this is a very useful type combination (unless you’re facing a Grass-type Pokémon). Let us check them out as we rank them based on their usefulness in two categories.

Best Water-type Pokémon

15. Seismitoad

537Seismitoad

TypesWater, Ground
AbilitiesSwift Swim: Boosts the Pokémon’s Speed stat in the rain.
Poison Touch: May poison a target when the Pokémon makes contact.
Water Absorb: Restores HP if hit by a Water-type move instead of taking damage.
WeaknessesGrass

It is based on a toad. It is quite similar to marine toads (Bufonidae), but its body is covered with large, round “lumps” through which it secretes poison, like the toads of the genus Bombina bombina (fire-bellied toads). In addition, like these toads, it communicate by croaking through body vibrations and has a stocky appearance. The shiny form of this Pokémon has the color of said toads.

Bug-/Dragon-Type Pokémon: What Is It?

It is the evolved form of Palpitoad, and its evolutionary family represents the metamorphosis of the anurans. When his bulges vibrate, his attacks bend, and he can even split a stone. The nerves of the bundles release a poisonous liquid that paralyzes them. This Pokémon loves to live in muddy waters, swamps, drains, and some lakes, though its short legs and fatness prevent it from being a good swimmer. It feeds on insects and some fish.

AbilitiesStrong Jaw: The Pokémon’s strong jaw boosts the power of its biting moves.
Shell Armor: A hard shell protects the Pokémon from critical hits.

The brown shell on its back is rocky and has sharp rocks on its horn-like head, arms, and tail. Its jaw has saw-toothed edges so strong that they can cut through iron and rock. Despite its heavy shell, it has great muscle strength that allows it to move quickly.

It is a very aggressive Pokémon that tests the skills and values of the trainers who catch it. Only the most experienced trainers can tame him. There are those who, realizing that they cannot handle it, return it to its wild state.

Damp: Prevents the use of explosive moves, such as Self-Destruct, by dampening its surroundings.
Swift Swim: Boosts the Pokémon’s Speed stat in rain.

When Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath, his countenance completely changes, gaining the fighting subtype, which makes him much more intimidating. It is a Pokémon that is characterized by its high physical performance, being able to swim seas back and forth without exhausting itself. He is the perfect fighter, as a martial arts practitioner must train hard to hone his skills.

In addition to possessing extremely developed muscles for striking, he also possesses steel-hard skin that allows him to withstand a large number of attacks. Despite his corpulent appearance, he is an excellent swimmer, being able to move in the most violent storms.

This Pokémon lives mainly in rivers or waterfalls, exercising in large rapids to strengthen its muscles. Some say that the Poliwrath swims against the current and thus grows stronger. They are also seen less frequently on beaches, but it is not very common.

WeaknessesGrass, Electric

Inteleon is based on both a spy and a reptile from the chameleon family. Its type and characteristic speed seem to indicate that basilisks also influence it, as these reptiles have the ability to run on water. Inteleon possesses a great intellect and analyzes everything deeply and calmly.

He is also known for his chivalrous behavior. In combat, he analyzes the weaknesses and actions of his opponents to develop strategies to defeat them. He also shows absolute loyalty to the trainers he deems worthy.

GenerationVII
TypesWater, Fairy
AbilitiesMisty Surge: Turns the ground into Misty Terrain when the Pokémon enters a battle.
Telepathy: Anticipates an ally’s attack and dodges it.
WeaknessesGrass, Poison, Electric

Tapu Fini is based on one of the four main Hawaiian deities, the god of the oceans and death, Kanaloa. He is known as the guardian spirit of Poni, one of the islands in the Alola region. This Pokémon can create a special water that purifies the body and mind. In exchange, Tapu Fini requires those who wish to obtain this clear water to prove themselves capable of resisting its mist. Many have tried it, including some with malicious intentions, which could explain its disinterest and aversion towards humans.

Huge Power: Doubles the Pokémon’s Attack stat.
Sap Sipper: Boosts the Attack stat if hit by a Grass-type move instead of taking damage.
WeaknessesGrass, Poison, Electric

Azumarill is a freshwater Pokémon since it lives in rivers and lakes; although it can live in the sea, but it never goes out into the open sea. He usually lives almost always with Azurill and Marill. It is a herbivore that finds aquatic plants using the vibrations it detects with its ears. It is so sensitive that it can detect them even though it is in strong currents. It is also said that with these, they can perfectly hear everything underwater. In case of being attacked, it quickly camouflages itself in the water.

Number#130
GenerationI
TypesWater, Flying / Water, Dark (Mega Gyarados)
AbilitiesIntimidate: The Pokémon intimidates opposing Pokémon upon entering battle, lowering their Attack stat.
Moxie: The Pokémon shows moxie, and that boosts the Attack stat after knocking out any Pokémon.
Mold Breaker: Moves can be used on the target regardless of its Abilities.
WeaknessesRock, Electric / Fighting, Bug, Grass, Electric, Fairy (Mega Gyarados)

Gyarados closely resembles a sea dragon, like the Chinese dragon. Gyarados, like its pre-evolution Magikarp, is inspired by an ancient Chinese legend, “Li Yu Tiao Long Men,” five characters literally meaning “Carp jumps over the Dragon Gate.”

The story goes that there was a weak and pathetic carp who wanted to prove his worth, so, being very persevering and after much suffering and hardship, he swam against the current and climbed a waterfall (the Dragon Gate). The gods saw this and, moved by her strength of will, decided to reward her by turning her into a splendid dragon.

Swampert is characterized by being one of the strongest evolutions of a starter Pokémon. Due to its huge arms, it is capable of lifting a bus with ease. His strength also helps him attack, as his powerful limbs allow him to cling to the ground when using Muddy Water or Earthquake. It can also predict storms with its fins. It will start piling up stones to protect itself from storms if one is about to explode. It can collect moisture from the water and create a powerful Hydro Cannon.

Strong Jaw: The Pokémon’s strong jaw boosts the power of its biting moves.
Sand Rush: Boosts the Pokémon’s Speed stat in a sandstorm.
WeaknessesDragon, Fairy

Dracovish’s strange design is based on the first interpretations that paleontologists gave to fossils found in the same site or with a lack of bones in the site, which were wrong and physically incorrect. Dracovish’s upper body is based on Dunkleosteus, while the lower body is possibly based on a Stegosaurus. Dracovish has extremely strong legs and a great motor capacity that would have allowed him to exceed 60 km/h on dry land if it weren’t for the fact that he is unable to breathe out of water.

Rain Dish: The Pokémon gradually regains HP in rain.
Mega Launcher: Powers up aura and pulse moves.
WeaknessesGrass, Electric

Blastoise is based on a turtle with two cannons. They can fire water bullets with enough accuracy to hit cans from 50 meters away. Despite this, they are unable to target targets that are too close. Its strength and power are greater than that of a fire hose, which is why many fire teams have Blastoise as members because with the enormous amounts of water that can shoot, any fire can be easily extinguished. If the power of its cannons were not enough to avoid any danger, it could still hide in its shell to hide or crush its opponent with its huge weight.

AbilitiesMerciless: The Pokémon’s attacks become critical hits if the target is poisoned.
Limber: Its limber body protects the Pokémon from paralysis.
Regenerator: Restores a little HP when withdrawn from battle.
Weaknesses

Toxapex is based on a starfish, specifically a crown of thorns, famous for feeding on corals and being a threat to coral reefs. Toxapex crawls across the ocean floor on its twelve legs. These extremities join together to form a dome that protects the interior. This is a haven of peace since the tides do not affect it. It leaves a trail of Corsola pieces in its wake. Those attacked by Toxapex poison will suffer intense pain for three days and three nights; even after recovery, it usually leaves scars.

Inner Focus: The Pokémon’s intensely focused, and that protects the Pokémon from flinching.
Water Abrosb: Restores HP if hit by a Water-type move instead of taking damage.
WeaknessesGrass, Electric

Suicune may be based on a black panther, or perhaps an ounce, better known as a snow leopard, although its slim body and speed suggest that it may be based on a cheetah. Or maybe an Arctic wolf.

This Pokémon can breathe underwater and purify it when it touches it. He usually goes in the direction of the north winds and has a great sense of honor and responsibility, although he is a bit of a loner. It also has the peculiarity of controlling the wind around it, which is why its tails always wave forward regardless of whether it is running at incredible speeds.

Number#658
GenerationVI
TypesWater, Dark
AbilitiesTorrent: Powers up Water-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
Protean: Changes the Pokémon’s type to the type of the move it’s about to use.
Battle Bond: Defeating an opposing Pokémon strengthens the Pokémon’s bond with its Trainer, and it becomes Ash-Greninja. Water Shuriken gets more powerful.
WeaknessesGrass, Electric, Fighting, Bug, Fairy

Greninja is based on the traits of a ninja and a frog. Greninja is a very fast Pokémon that can appear and disappear unexpectedly. In combat, he makes the opponent dizzy with his superb agility and then attacks the enemy by compressing the water to create shuriken that, when rotated, can cut materials as hard as metal. His tongue is very long. He uses it around his neck like a scarf, covering his mouth and nose, thus resembling a ninja that covers his face.

As of the seventh generation, a special Greninja can use the affective metamorphosis with which it transforms into Ash-Greninja thanks to the fact that Ash and this Pokémon are very close. The effective metamorphosis causes Greninja to accumulate great power and change form. It is believed that there was only one other case in the past, hundreds of years ago.

Ash Greninja’s strength is far superior to that of a normal Greninja, which allows him to move at great speed, surprising his opponents. He uses the large water shuriken on his back against his opponents. When this happens, Greninja changes into his Ash forme. At the end of the fight, Ash-Greninja returns to its original form.

Number#389
GenerationIV
TypesGrass, Ground
AbilitiesOvergrow Powers up Grass-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
Shell Armor: A hard shell protects the Pokémon from critical hits.
WeaknessesFlying, Bug, Fire, Ice

Torterra are usually seen in very thick forests. The bush that Grotle used to have on his back has turned into a leafy tree in which some flying Pokémon make their nests. This makes Torterra a Pokémon with a serene nature and a very attentive one since some Pokémon spend their entire lives on its back, and Torterra always watches over them.

076Golem Alola
Number#076
GenerationI
TypesRock, Ground (Kanto) / Rock, Electric (Alola)
AbilitiesSturdy: It cannot be knocked out with one hit. One-hit KO moves cannot knock it out, either.
Rock Head: Protects the Pokémon from recoil damage. (Kanto)
Magnet Pull: Prevents Steel-type Pokémon from escaping using its magnetic force. (Alola)
Sand Veil: Boosts the Pokémon’s evasiveness in a sandstorm. (Kanto)
Galvanize: Normal-type moves become Electric-type moves. The power of those moves is boosted a little. (Alola)
WeaknessesFighting, Ground, Steel, Water, Grass, Ice (Kanto) / Fighting, Ground, Water, Grass (Alola)

Unlike his pre-evolution, Golem does not have four arms. He lives on the slopes of the mountains. When there are earthquakes, he rolls down the mountains. To avoid crushing houses, grooves have been dug to guide them as they descend. He can put his head, arms, and legs inside his body, forming a sphere. In this sense, it is a great feat that he has that flexibility, although it is the only one he has. This is how they roll, and it also serves as a defense mechanism for physical attacks.

Number#464
GenerationIV
TypesGround, Rock
AbilitiesLightning Rod: The Pokémon draws in all Electric-type moves. Instead of being hit by Electric-type moves, it boosts its Sp. Atk.
Solid Rock: Reduces the power of supereffective attacks taken.
Reckless: Powers up moves that have recoil damage.
WeaknessesFighting, Ground, Steel, Water, Grass, Ice

Rhyperior Pokémon is very rare to see, so not much is known about it. It lives in steep and inaccessible areas. It is usually territorial and very violent if it feels threatened. His skin is tough and strong, so common attacks do not affect him. Also, thanks to its solid rock ability, it reduces the damage of attacks affecting these large Pokémon species.

The females are much more violent than the males and frequent active volcanoes to have their young. Since the males are calmer, they are better because they can better control themselves for combat.

TypesGround, Dragon
AbilitiesLevitate: By floating in the air, the Pokémon receives full immunity to all Ground-type moves.
WeaknessesIce, Dragon, Fairy

Flygon is a cross between a dragon and an adult antlion, an insect resembling dragonflies. The Flygon’s natural habitat is the desert, through which it flies. Flygon’s wings can create a cloud of dust, and every time they flap, they surround themselves with a sandstorm. This provides Flygon with useful cover against unwanted visitors who get lost within the cloud of sand, while he maintains perfect vision thanks to the transparent red covers over his eyes.

AbilitiesIron Fist: Powers up punching moves.
Klutz: The Pokémon can’t use any held items.
No Guard: The Pokémon employs no-guard tactics to ensure incoming and outgoing attacks always land.
WeaknessesGhost, Water, Ice, Grass, Dark

Golurk is based on both a golem and a robot or automaton. Specifically, it is based on the mythological Golem of Prague, a being created with materials such as mud and clay that was brought to life with alchemy and whose task was to obey anyone who put a piece of paper in its mouth with instructions. A seal was placed on his chest to prevent his life energy from escaping. He may also have some inspiration from Talos, the metal giant who guarded the island of Crete in Greek mythology.

Sand Force: Boosts the power of Rock-, Ground-, and Steel-type moves in a sandstorm.
Mold Breaker: Moves can be used on the target regardless of its Abilities.
WeaknessesFighting, Ground, Fire, Water

Excadrill has the appearance of a large mole. On its head it has a huge horn or crest tilted slightly forward that it uses to join it with its claws and become its drill form, with which it digs tunnels. He also has huge claws that are very dangerous for any enemy. Drilbur’s blue stripes turn red as it evolves. By enduring high pressure underground, his claws and part of his body become harder and thus change, and it is said that he becomes pure steel, just like Onix’s body when he evolves into Steelix.

Steelix is a giant snake with a segmented body made up of large masses of roughly spherical steel-alloyed rock with a hardness greater than that of diamond. It lives in an underground habitat and can be found in caves.

It is perfectly adapted to these niches thanks to its excavation capacity and its underground vision. According to geological tests, it has an innate tendency to dig towards the center of the earth, reaching a depth of 1 km. Its particular excavation method consists of ingesting the minerals within its reach to move frontally.

Krookodile is quite a violent Pokémon and is known as the Terror of the Sands. It attacks everything that moves in front of it with its deadly jaws, capable of destroying a car’s body. As soon as he sinks his teeth into his prey, it can no longer escape, and Krookodile begins to twist her body to pieces.

Number#473
GenerationIV
TypesIce, Ground
AbilitiesOblivious: The Pokémon is oblivious, and that keeps it from being infatuated or falling for taunts.
Snow Cloak: Boosts evasiveness in a hailstorm.
Thick Fat: The Pokémon is protected by a layer of thick fat, which halves the damage taken from Fire- and Ice-type moves.
WeaknessesFighting, Steel, Water, Fire, Grass

Mamoswine is based on a woolly mammoth. In this sense, it stands out that it has a sensitive nose instead of a trunk, probably due to the pig origins of its pre-evolutions. He lived in the wild ice age and was considered by the men of the time to be a mammoth, resembling a prehistoric drawing of one.

Currently, all Mamoswine are bred by trainers. Its huge fangs make it a very good Pokémon in battle, but with a fairly slow speed due to its weight, teeth, hair, and robustness, although it has a great attack. His ice attacks are just as effective as his ground attacks. Unlike mammoths, Mamoswine appears not to be strictly herbivorous. He feels rivalry towards the Froslass.

His eyes are red, and sand comes out of his body from the craters on his body, with which he hides. It has a black shell. Since Hippowdon is a desert Pokémon, it can only be found in the desert, between sandstorms. In addition, you can dive into the sand and move through it with great ease.

Landorus is based on both Inari, the Japanese deity of fertility and agriculture, and a genie. His totem form is based on one of the four sacred beasts in Chinese mythology: the White Tiger (represents the West). The lands that Landorus visits produce great crops, for which he is considered the lord of agriculture. He uses energy that he obtains from the wind and lightning to enrich the soil with nutrients and generate bountiful harvests. This energy is released through his tail.

He is the only one capable of stopping Thundurus and Tornadus when they fight, so he could be considered as the mediator of the two.

When a threat looms over ecosystems that Zygarde at 50% is unable to address, two of its cores will take up positions on its wings and tail along with all cells in this combat-optimized form to accomplish its mission. It is said that the power of it is greater than even that of the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal. His ability doesn’t change between 10% and 50% forms, retaining grouping as he can’t reach this state otherwise.

GenerationIII
TypesGround / Ground, Fire (Primal)
AbilitiesDrought: Turns the sunlight harsh when the Pokémon enters a battle.
Desolate Land: The Pokémon changes the weather to nullify Water-type attacks.
WeaknessesWater, Grass, Ice, Ground

Groudon is said to have such power that it could destroy an entire island in one blow or even drag the tectonic plates little by little, causing all the volcanism and seismicity in the world. His special ability, drought, makes the sun’s rays so intense that they evaporate water and nourish the earth.

That is why it is said that he was the savior of those who suffered from terrible floods. He can create rivers of lava, and volcanoes, and cause earthquakes or eruptions of all kinds and intensity with a single punch or fit of rage. Even in his primeval regression, he can create continents just by traversing across an ocean.
